Foster Art Night is upon us and it's a gem. Saturday, Linda Austin will prove once again why we are so lucky to have her and Performance Works NW right down the road. If you have yet to check it out, this is a great opportunity to do just that.
Knock Knock! It's your neighbor is back and they want your tale-telling talent. If you have a story, they want you to share it. For more details on how to get involved, take a look at their guidelines and be prepared to show your stuff. The auditions begin on July 12th.
Foster Art Night is back this Saturday. If you have the energy after a day of Garden Tour bliss, we urge you to take the FAN stroll and pick up your Foster Street Card.
The discount card is free for neighbors and friends to frequent and discover shops, services, and restaurants along the Foster Strip. Salon Mojo is generously hosting our open house to kick off the FAN season. Stop in for refreshments, chit chat, and pick up your street card while you're at it.
We are looking forward to another great Summer of neighborly fun, art, and inspiration.
Foster Art Night needs your help in 2014. What began as a simple stroll down Foster road in 2012 has now become a night of neighbors making friends amid live music, libations, and art.
In the great fashion of supporting one another and promoting our Foster district community, we have decided to take FAN up a notch in 2014. If you would like to assist in coordination, idea making, fundraising, and/or art making, we’d love to hear from you. Planning is underway now. Please contact us here at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details. (more…)
2013 is off to a wonderful start in these here parts. New businesses are opening their doors, trees are being planted, and the Winter market is upon us. As we move into this fine new year, we happily anticipate more weekends like this one:
Kick it off Friday night at Space Monkey Coffee (5511 SE 72nd) for your art fix. The reception starts at 6:00 pm. All are welcome to appreciate the work of Joel Barber and Jonathan Luczycki.
The holiday is upon us. Folks are hanging up lights, cutting down trees, and spending money they probably don’t have all in dedication to the spirit of Christmas. While we wish our Portland business neighbors great success with the season ahead, we hope you will consider shopping locally on your holiday quest. Gift cards from your favorite coffee shops, restaurants, bike and bottle shops are ready for your taking. In the meantime, we urge you to foster in the season with the following:
On Saturday check out Dennis’ 7 Dees for a chance to meet Santa, drink some coco, and meet a real live Rudolf. Hip Chicks do Wine will be onsite to hand out the vino alongside the folks at Pony Espresso . Santa is due to arrive at 12:00. Don’t be late.
On Sunday, join your neighbors on the mission to raise funds for the Wikman-Arleta Building Project and get some holiday shopping in while you’re at it.

If Foster United were to mirror the energy and community effort in the Foster area, we’ll have accomplished our goal. In our first week, that mirror might have reflected both ways. While we had a lot of news and events to report, we also received a lot of good press and attention in return, making the efforts of Foster area residents that much more visible and recognized. To you, fine folks of Foster, I say, “Kudos, keep up the good work.” (more…)
Do you like to get down and dirty in support of your neighborhood? So do we. Coming up this weekend is an opportunity to do just that: Cleanup the Johnson Creek, stay cool, and work hand-in-hand with your neighbors to make the Foster area (and beyond) a better place. … Continue reading →
It’s that time again, and Foster Art Night(FAN) is upon us. Just to recap: every third Saturday of the month, art and libations, and a nice jaunt down Foster. While FAN is still looking to expand by adding more artists, getting more participation from local businesses, and getting a larger street presence (hint: vendors, musicians…please join us), it is still a fun way to enjoy the Foster landscape between the Slingshot Lounge and O’Malley’s…even if it’s mostly to get a pint and browse the art adorning the walls of some of our fine bars.
There’s more, though. It isn’t just a pub crawl with the happenstance of art on the walls. Rather, it’s a way to promote more community engagement and the arts simultaneously. Too, local residents and business owners are offering up their space to further the cause. Take the Foster Road Salon, for example. Housed above Bob and Alice’s, this space has become the scene of readings, mingling, drinking, and a nicely curated apartment. And this month, two more spaces are being offered for the art-walking, Foster-loving denizens. The Day Theater, in collaboration with the Southeast Church, will be hosting music, arts and crafts, and…yes, the unveiling of the Foster Art Night IPA. And not to be outdone, N.W.I.P.A., barely open for a week now, is busting out with a collection of art from Nine Dejanvier just in time for FAN. And if a tasty beer and charcuterie plate wasn’t enough.
Again, FAN is still expanding, and the more energy involved, the better…so don’t be shy.
