The first advisory committee meeting of the Foster Road Transportation and Streetscape Plan is happening this Wednesday, September 19th, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at SE Works (7916 SE Foster Road). If you’d like to learn more about the inner workings of the project and follow along from day 1, this is the meeting to go to. If you can’t make it but would like to follow along, check back here. Foster United will be reporting on the meetings regularly. Download the meeting agenda and materials to get the behind the scenes scoop.
This will be the first formal gathering of the committee, and as such it may have a little less “real” substance than future meetings. The committee is made up of Foster area representatives from neighborhood associations, business owners, residents, and city-wide interests groups, such as the Willamette Pedestrian Coalition.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and establish the project goals. This project is an update of the 2003 Foster Road Transportation and Streetscape plan, so they’ve started with the goals set forth in that original plan. Here’s the list the committee will be evaluating and improving:
Streetscape: Make the street a safe, pleasant, attractive and comfortable place to walk.
Pedestrian Travel: Create a safe walking environment for pedestrians walking along and across the street.
Vehicles: Provide a safe corridor for vehicle travel that maintains and acceptable level of service and ensure smooth, consistent traffic movement.
Transit: Improve transit service on Foster.
Bicycle Travel: Endusre bicyclists can safely ride on and cross Foster, and access Foster-area businesses.
The original plan made recommendations tied to these goals. As these goals are affirmed or revised, the committee will revisit the actions of the original plan.
What do you think about the goals listed above? Do you have any suggestions for changes or additions? Leave your feedback in the comments below and Foster United will be sure to present them during the meeting for consideration by the full committee.
