Prince, “The Boogie Cat” and no pants

2013 is off to a wonderful start in these here parts. New businesses are opening their doors, trees are being planted, and the Winter market is upon us. As we move into this fine new year, we happily anticipate more weekends like this one:

Kick it off Friday night at Space Monkey Coffee (5511 SE 72nd) for your art fix. The reception starts at 6:00 pm. All are welcome to appreciate the work of Joel Barber and Jonathan Luczycki.

Keep on keepin on with a night in dedication to the one and only, Prince at The New Copper Penny. Apparently there is a band and surely, there will be dancing.

Friends of Trees is at it again. If you’ve missed out in the past, now is your chance. Grab a shovel and meet your neighbors at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church (4244 SE 91st AVE). The fun starts at 9:00, show up early for the snacks.

The Fitness Fair at the Mt. Scott Community Center is a free event and an awesome way to spend a Saturday. Check out the various programs, activities, and classes available to you and receive a 20% discount on passes paid in full.

THE LODGENorman Sylvester “The Boogie Cat” is coming to The Lodge Bar and Grill (6605 SE Powell-Former Gators). It’s a free night of live music from a NW favorite. Inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame in 2011, Sylvester’s visit is a special treat and not to be missed.

Wrap up your night at O’Malley’s (65th & Foster) for a fundraiser done right. Celebrate with bands, beer, and a birthday for a beloved community advocate and friend. “Save the Boobs” is a benefit to raise funds in a fight against cancer. $5.00 at the door, and the party starts at 9:00.

Close the weekend at the Montavilla Farmer’s Market. The Winter market will be open from 11:00 till 1:00. This is a great opportunity to pick up your fresh produce in spite of the chilly season.

If you are so-inclined, Sunday marks “No Pants” day in Portland. Click HERE for the bare details.

As always please feel free to post your events and happenings in the comments section. We’d sure appreciate it. In the meantime, here’s a bit of Prince in case you can’t make it out on Friday:
