The future of FAN, fun stuff

Foster Art Night  needs your help in 2014. What began as a simple stroll down Foster road in 2012 has now become a night of neighbors making friends amid live music, libations, and art.

fanIn the great fashion of supporting one another and promoting our Foster district community, we have decided to take FAN up a notch in 2014. If you would like to assist in coordination, idea making, fundraising, and/or art making, we’d love to hear from you. Planning is underway now. Please contact us here at for more details. (more…)

A Lunar New Year Gallery and your Weekend Events

Before we head into your weekend happenings below, we’d like to take a moment to offer up a special thanks to the Holgate Library for hosting their annual Lunar New Year celebration.  If you missed it, just click on the slideshow!

Welcome the The Second Annual 2 day “Winter Blues” Music Festival to Foster Road’s Bobwhite Theatre featuring 13  blues, rock, and zydeco bands.  Food, drinks, doors at 3:30.

If just one blues band will do you, Gemini has Patrick Dull & the Bridgetown Blues in the house.

Maybe behind the mic is more your style?  Join the friendly crowd down at Dusty’s Karaoke every Friday night with an early 8pm start.

Or meet up with Capoeira Angola Palmares of FoPo who host many classes in the area, including a Friday class at Foster Fitness 7-8:45pm.  Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art and dance in which two players dance together in a circle, alternating attack and defense, in a fluid movement to traditional instruments and singing Portuguese lyrics.  Wow, who knew?  Add it your regular Foster Road Friday!

Do you dream of pocket parks, urban orchards, or alley gardens? If yes, you’ll definitely want to register for Southeast Uplift’s Sustainability Workshop: Greenspace & Working with the city.  You will hear how unique projects were accomplished from the urban innovators themselves!

If you’d like to learn more about this year’s FoPo Garden Tour taking place Saturday June 15th, garden host veterans will be at the Lily Day Cafe from 9:30-11:30 to answer questions and sign up volunteers.

Pageturners returns to the Holgate Library with the annual Everybody Reads community wide book discussion.  This year features Sherman Alexie’s short story collection Ten Little Indians.

It’s Chick Day at Birds & Bees Nursery, as if baby chicks aren’t enough, there will be free crafts and snacks too.  Or register for Miniature Gardens at Dennis 7 Dees and delight your backyard faeries.

Foster Art Night Adds Two More Venues for this Weekend’s Art Walk

Foster Art Night Adds Two More Venues for this Weekend’s Art Walk

Posted on August 16, 2012

It’s that time again, and Foster Art Night(FAN) is upon us.  Just to recap: every third Saturday of the month, art and libations, and a nice jaunt down Foster.  While FAN is still looking to expand by adding more artists, getting more participation from local businesses, and getting a larger street presence (hint: vendors, musicians…please join us), it is still a fun way to enjoy the Foster landscape between the Slingshot Lounge and O’Malley’s…even if it’s mostly to get a pint and browse the art adorning the walls of some of our fine bars.

There’s more, though.  It isn’t just a pub crawl with the happenstance of art on the walls.  Rather, it’s a way to promote more community engagement and the arts simultaneously.  Too, local residents and business owners are offering up their space to further the cause.  Take the Foster Road Salon, for example.  Housed above Bob and Alice’s, this space has become the scene of readings, mingling, drinking, and a nicely curated apartment.  And this month, two more spaces are being offered for the art-walking, Foster-loving denizens.  The Day Theater, in collaboration with the Southeast Church, will be hosting music, arts and crafts, and…yes, the unveiling of the Foster Art Night IPA.  And not to be outdone, N.W.I.P.A., barely open for a week now, is busting out with a collection of art from Nine Dejanvier just in time for FAN.  And if a tasty beer and charcuterie plate wasn’t enough.

Again, FAN is still expanding, and the more energy involved, the better…so don’t be shy.
