Activist Andy Szolnoki in Lents is aiming to transform “one of the ugliest property in the neighborhood” into something more appropriate for a neighborhood commercial district.
Among all the other events this weekend, one important one might get overlooked: This Sunday, the public can see the results of the significant work that’s been done as part of the East Lents Floodplain Restoration Project.
Johnson Creek is one of Portland’s natural and scenic wonders, but it’s also posed some tough engineering challenges. For decades, Foster Road from about 106th to 110th has been the site of significant flooding during heavy rains, disrupting the lives of residents and businesses in the area.
Patterns of development over the years have left the basin unable to drain adequately. Since water will always find somewhere to go, the result was water on the roadway and in some years even into the businesses across the street. (more…)
